The Super Bowl is tomorrow and if you are going to be hosting or attending a Super Bowl party, there most likely is going to be greasy, fattening foods. I mean isn’t that the basis of a Super Bowl Party. Well, there is a healthy alternative.
Here’s an idea for your dip. Instead of making the calorie laden 7 layer dip, make a fresh salsa instead. Chop up some tomatoes, onion, jalapeno peppers, and cilantro. Add a little bit of salt and pepper to taste and you have a simple, yet very healthy dip for your Super Bowl party. Allow the salsa to sit for at least a couple of hours to allow the flavors to mix. Then serve it with some baked tortilla chips or better yet whole grain tortilla chips. If you think that your guest won’t like the whole grain, then put out regular tortilla chips also.
No one is going to miss the fattening 7 layer dip with this tasty salsa and you can save tons of calories on Super Bowl Sunday!

Another Friday, another weigh in. I can’t believe that January is almost over as it went by so quick. One month down and only 11 more to go till my goal!

I also took my measurements this week, which are:
Chest : 42.5 (-.5)
Waist: 38 (-1)
Hips: 46.5 (-1.5)
Overall, I am so happy with these results. I lost another 5 pounds this week and lost 3 inches in two weeks. For the month of January I lost 18 pounds! Woohoo!!! I have lost more than half of my pregnancy weight now. So, I only have 28 more pounds til I am back to my pre-preggo weight. Then, I have a feeling the hard stuff will come, trying to get back down to what I weighed when I got married. But, for right now I am just celebrating the awesome weight loss I have had so far!

I’m sure you have seen the new pictures of Jessica Simpson performing that have celebrity tabloids and bloggers claiming that she is now fat. (you can see the pics here) Okay, so this is so disturbing to me. If Jessica Simpson is fat, than what the heck am I and the other average woman?
Yes, I admit that it looks like she has gained some weight, but I would never go as far as to call her fat. Could it be a poorly chosen outfit? Bad camera angles? I’m not sure but what I do know is that Jessica Simpson has curves like a woman should. She has eve spoken out before about how she likes her body with curves. That is the way a woman should look. To me, woman like Victoria Beckham and Kate Moss are not womanly. They have no curves (except for Victoria’s fake curves that she bought).
Now, I know that celebrities are supposed to have higher standards when it comes to weight, but give the girl a break. No one deserves to be called fat, especially when they are not fat! This sends such a poor message to young girls and even to adult woman like me. If people think that she is fat, what the heck do they think of me???

So, I always try to watch the The Biggest Loser every week, as it’s the only show that I really get to watch. After watching last night’s episode, it made quite mad and upset. I felt so sorry for Dan on the orange team that his teammate basically ruined it for him. Here is this young man who wants to lose and was doing so good on the ranch and because of his teammate, he gets voted off. I was happy to see that he has continued the weight loss efforts when he got home and has lost over 100 pounds already. If you don’t remember, Dan was the heaviest contestant that Biggest Loser has ever seen and he is only 19 years old. I just wanted to congratulate Dan and say good job for turning his life around and he has so much to look forward to now.
This situation reminds me of how other people can bring you down when you are trying to lose weight. I know that my husband doesn’t mean to, but when he suggests pizza for dinner, it’s like, DUH, I can’t eat pizza. He just doesn’t realize it since he has never had a weight problem. Then there are those other people who actually try to bring you down on purpose. Those friends or family members that are jealous you are losing weight or just have low self-esteem and want to bring them down with them. For those people, I say forget about them, you don’t need them in your life!

So, I decided that for my birthday, which is about 2 months away, I want to get an Ipod. My goal is to start taking long walks with the two kids in the double stroller as soon as the weather gets warmer. So, I know that I would be so mush more motivated if I had some good music to listen to along the walk. There comes in the Ipod. Yes, I am a little bit behind in the technology department, but I never had the need for one before this.
So, I need some favors from my readers. What Ipod do you recommend? I don’t need anything really fancy, just something that will play music and last for awhile. Oh and something that is easy to figure out as I don’t have much time to sit there and play around with it. Also, any recommendations for sites that have cheap music downloads for the Ipod?

I have been so busy with the two little ones that I have been having trouble getting enough calories in. This is such a dramatic change from before when I was pregnant, when I was consuming enough calories for 3 people. I know this isn’t the best, but I guess it’s better than over-eating.
What I have been doing is putting some fruit such as grapes, cherries or cut up melon in a bowl in the refrigerator and this way I can quickly grab a snack without much effort. This works out well since fruit is healthy and not that many calories and it gives me the energy I need to get through the day. So, if you don’t have time during your busy schedule, this simple trick can help you get your calories and nutrients in without much effort.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and it’s important that you eat a healthy and balanced breakfast if you want to lose weight. Here is a great choice for the perfect healthy breakfast.
Egg white veggie omelet - use only egg whites to consume less calories, if you want you can add in one full egg with the yolk. Cook the omelet in light cooking spray. Add as many veggies as you wish, some of the veggies that I like are onions, spinach, peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes, and zucchini. If you like salsa you can even add some salsa or hot sauce to the top of your omelet.
To make this an even more balanced meal, add half a grapefruit, an orange or strawberries to the side. Add a glass of skim milk to drink and you have a healthy balanced breakfast that is tasty. You have the protein from the eggs, you have your veggies and fruit and then you have your dairy from the milk. This is a great go-to breakfast for anybody looking to lose weight and eat healthy.

Well, Friday is here again and I am actually starting to look forward to Friday’s and the weigh ins. I guess the one week were I gain weight or don’t lose any is when I will start dreading them instead.

I have decided that I am only going to take measurements every other week so there is no update on measurements this week.
I was very surprised and very happy as I stepped on the scale this morning. 5 pounds lost is awesome for me. The thing that I realize though, is that I know that the first 1/2 to 3/4 of the pregnancy weight usually comes off pretty quickly once I start eating healthy and exercising. It’s the last 1/4 of the weight or the 10 or so pounds that seem to take forever to get off. But I am taking it one day at a time and I am enjoying my success today.

I know that many people may not like them, but squats are my favorite exercise to do. They aren’t very hard to do, as you can control how far you go down and work your muscles, and you can do them just about anytime or anywhere. No special equipment is needed to do squats either.
Squats are one of the best exercises to work your legs and your but and hips. They help to slim and tighten and tone your backside along with slimming your thighs. Which many woman know these two areas are problem spots for many woman.
Also, squats are great for beginners as you don’t have to go that low in a squat to get a workout. You can control how much you work your body when you do squats. There are also variations that you can with the position of your legs to work specific spots, such as plie squats help to focus in on your inner thighs.
It may sound strange but squats can be done just about anywhere. Heck you can even do a couple every time you go to the bathroom and fit some in them just to remind to fit them in. They can be done holding a baby or a child for even more resistance. You can do them while waiting for your dinner to cook or while watching television.
Keep doing those squats and you will see results.

I looked at today’s date and couldn’t believe that January will soon be over. Where the heck did the month go? What also hit me is that soon the warm weather will be coming, which I am totally excited about. BUT, then I realized that with warm weather comes less clothing and the all dreaded bathing suit!
Not that I will most likely be wearing a bathing suit this year. (I’m still going to use the excuse of having a baby only a couple months ago !) I know for most woman, myself included, bathing suit shopping is the pits. Looking at yourself up close in a full length mirror in the bad lighting of the dressing room just is not fun.
One thing that I think that most women, even some men, need to learn is that you actually can feel comfortable in a bathing suit. You just need to choose one that flatters your body, no matter what the size or shape. The more you feel comfortable about yourself in the bathing suit, the more self-esteem you will exhibit. Also, I have realized that most other people aren’t really worried about you look like in your bating suit as they are too worried about what they look like to care! Everyone is in the same boat.
